General Description

Welcome to the web pages of the Association of Moving Image Archivists' Cataloging Committee.

The purpose of this Committee is best summed up in our mission statement:

Mission Statement of the Cataloging Committee
In order to serve the archival moving image community, the Cataloging Committee shall be a forum for discussion of cataloging issues. In the course of its work, the Committee shall facilitate the exchange of information through programs and publications, promote the use of existing national standards for the cataloging of archival moving image materials, advise the appropriate standard making bodies on cataloging standards and issues, create new cataloging standards, provide education and information on cataloging practices, and establish liaisons with related organizations.

The Cataloging Committee is facilitated by the Committee chair.

**The Cataloging Committee has been, and continues to be, involved in numerous activities. Subcommittees handle different projects, such as putting together presentations for the annual AMIA conference (Program Subcommittee) and compiling information about the cataloging practices of different archival institutions (Cataloging Compendium Subcommittee). The Cataloging Compendium is one of the two major publication efforts of the Cataloging Committee. The other is the Archival Moving Image Materials (AMIM) rule revision. Both of these documents may be accessed on the Publications page.
