Community Travel Fund Grant


The AMIA Community Fund was established to pay tribute to the work of AMIA members, and through donations, offer colleagues, friends and families a way to honor contributions to the moving image field. The Fund provides travel funding for the AMIA Annual Conference.  

This year $11,500 will be awarded in travel grants up to $1,000 each.  A huge thank you to everyone who has donated to the fund this year and to the sponsors who have made additional funding – HGST, a Western Digital brand; Roundabout Entertainment; and, DigiPres Labs. 

Reflected in our Statement of Diversity, Inclusion and Equity adopted earlier this year, AMIA is committed to cultivating an environment in which in a multiplicity of voices are sought, listened to and respected. In order to increase and encourage diversity, inclusion, and equity at the conference, special consideration will be given to underrepresented individuals and those whose work shows a commitment to diversity in the field.

Applicants may apply for travel expenses up to $1,000 to cover travel, accommodations and/or registration fees.



Applicants will complete a short application form and include a brief essay (no more than 750 words) addressing the following: financial need for the award and how receiving the award will ensure you can attend the conference; how attendance at the conference will contribute to your professional development; and, how it will help you better engage with the AMIA community (currently or in the future); and, if applicable, how you, your experiences and/or professional interests show a commitment to advancing diversity.

Community Fund Travel Grants are open to everyone, with consideration given to both members and to those who engage or plan to engage with the AMIA community. Past funding recipients are eligible to apply.


The Community Fund

The AMIA Community Fund accepts donations in honor of or in memory of colleagues who have made contributions to the moving image world.  Monies from the fund support access to the annual meeting by providing travel grants to reimburse members for conference registration, lodging, and/or transportation costs.  The Community Fund is funded through members and donors, and not through the general AMIA budget. The number of travel grants each year will is based on donations received.

All funds donated to the Community Fund are offered as travel grants to the annual conference.
