The Moving Image is a professional journal that represents the interests of the Association of Moving Image Archivists and provides an open forum for archivists, librarians, technical specialists, scholars and academics interested in our rapidly expanding field. The goal of the journal is to reflect the diverse interests of the AMIA membership and the field through in-depth articles, reviews and commentaries.
The Editor-in-Chief Is responsible for all editorial content for two issues annually of the journal, including the refereed Features section, the Forum section, and the Reviews section. The Editor-in-Chief may designate a “Special Issue Editor” once every two years. Supervises the work of the Managing Editor, as well as the Book Reviews and Film/DVD Reviews editors.
The Editor-in-Chief is specifically responsible for:
- Networking with potential authors, whether in academia, in the industry, or in the non-profit world of moving image archiving.
- Contacting potential authors who have either expressed an interest in publishing, been referred by others or have given promising papers at conferences.
- Reading and coaching potential authors on their submissions.
- Locating and contacting peer reviewers for feature articles.
- Editing final manuscript, once articles have been accepted for publication either through peer review or upon recommendation of book/film review editors.
- Writing an introduction to each issue.
- Approving final blue line before manuscript sent to printer.
AMIA provides a $2,000 stipend per two issues to cover Editor's travel or other expenses in relation to The Moving Image. Reviewed annually.
Qualifications
Substantial record of publications in film and media studies; some editing experience preferable; knowledge of academic publishing; ability to communicate effectively.
