Post Itinerant filmmakers
Is there a good source of information on itinerant filmmakers in the silent era? These were filmakers that traveled from town to town and shot films featuring local citizens and landmarks. Of course they go lots of free publicity because "Hollywood" was making a film locally. And the entire local population had to turn out for a screening of their film.

Charles Musser's "High Class Moving Pictures: Lyman H. Howe and the Forgotten Era of Traveling Exhibition" is the only book that I've seen on the subject.

I've been contacted by relatives of Don Newland, who was a traveling filmmaker. The story of one of his local productions can be found in Google's newspaper archives at

Is there any good source of information on these types of films? Do some archives collect these films?
