Filmmaker Don O. Newland - Sunday paper
Another city recognizes Don O. Newland's work! Newland made about 50 films...so I must work on getting the other communities to honor him.
Newland died 7 MAY 1951....almost 60 years ago.

For 10 days in the fall of 1932, Athens became a little like Tinseltown.
That’s when itinerant Hollywood filmmaker Don O. Newland came to town and made the movie “Athens’ Hero,” using a cast composed entirely of Athens residents.
Before it was over, not only had several local people played lead roles in the film, but thousands had served as extras.
